Everything about Nokia

Having a cellphone is not a big deal for people, but in 90's cell phones are very less common. When we talk about history of mobile phones we can't forget the brand "NOKIA" which was one of the most popular telecom brand all over India. The history of Nokia started in 1865 as a paper mill by  Fredrik Idestam , after earning enough money in paper business they started a second paper mill in the town of  Nokia . The name Nokia comes from the river  Nokianvirta which is in Finland.



Nokia had grownup with the business of tyres , electricity and cables . In the years of 1960 the Nokia started in building their electronic products . At first  Nokia started working with military , they made several equipment's which helps in military purposes. In 1979 Nokia took it's first step in creating telephony by the launch of Mobira oy .They also created Nordic Mobile Telephone services , which was later known as NMT . NMT was the first wireless service .In the 1970s and 1980s, Nokia developed the Sanomalaitejärjestelmä , a digital, portable and encrypted text-based communications device for the Finnish Defence Forces it helps users to send messages between devices.The current main unit used by the Defence Forces is the Sanomalaite M/90 (SANLA M/90) . This messaging system give birth to SMS (Short Messaging Service). Nokia also launched a car phone namely Mobira Senator , it was the first wireless device that was installed in a vehicle.



Through the same year , Nokia launched their first portable mobile phone device Mobira CityMan (800gms) which can be carried by a user. It was light weight also cheap causing relatively around 6000$.Nokia's mobile phones got a publicity boost in 1987, when Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was pictured using a Mobira Cityman to call fromHelsinki to his communications minister in Moscow. This led to the phone's nickname of the "Gorba".
Nokia also tried in the field of personal computers and designed their first device namely MikroMikko , but later this product was sold to Fijtsu who converted it to their laptop version.





Now you can also buy Fjitsu laptops from markets. Nokia also tried to make laptops again with Nokia 3G in the year of 2009 but this time they won't reached enough market value and Nokia stopped making of laptop. Anyways , the first device which could make a satellite call was a Nokia device around 1994. The Finland prime minister Helsinki made first GSM call by a Nokia provided GSM network.

We all know the Nokia tune !!!
It is to be estimated that this tune was played more than 1.8 Billion times/day and more than 30000 times per minute.This tune made company a brand image in the 1990's with their Nokia 2100 phone.

At once Nokia was also a largest vendor of cameras, there were more than 10 Billion photos were taken by Nokia devices around the world per day. 




The Nokia 1100 was the highest selling mobile phone ever made , about 250 Million units of the devices were sold. This made Nokia a trendsetter among peoples. Nokia got  highest selling rate of 475 Million units in the year of 2008, which is still unbroken.



While talking with Nokia I can't forget a device which is called Nokia 3310 which was launched around year of 2000. This phone is one of the best among Nokia's , It is very durable and easy to handle ,If you throw the same into a rough floor then you can use the same after assembling the parts. The next Nokia phone that I can't forget is Nokia 1011 , the specialty of this phone is it can store phone book upto 100 numbers. But I love this phone because , I got a "Pencil box" of the same, when I was studying in 1'st standard , also I still remember those days when I brake the box apart :( 



In 2002 the first GPRS enabled Nokia phone was launched , It was Nokia 3510, there are only certain number of wapsites so the phone is just used for searching google. The phone doesn't have enough memory to load webpages, and uses Wap protocols insted of http. 

Nokia also developed Here maps , which was made with the help of NavteQ (the company is later owned by Nokia). NavteQ was a company which makes Navigation systems. Nokia also send their data to BMW, Amazon.com etc, for navigation purposes.Although Nokia is owned by Microsoft as mobile device company the Nokia still have Here maps service ,the data's acquired from it will be later provided to standalone applications of Microsoft , I OS , Android etc.



There is another network called Nokia Networks which is network based company provides Ip hosting, CDMA services , mobile communications and lot more. It also have a 24hr support customer care service. I think you all know about Meego Os , which was provided in Nokia N 9.



 The phone got less popular because of it's poor App store facility. After the announcement of Nokia which will be owned by Microsoft , the Meego Os has made it's own platform and announce a new device called Jolla. The Jolla phones has got good market value. The Meego Os claims that they will be the next place holder in the positions of Android , I OS and Microsoft. Anyways, the Jolla remains as an Independent company. 


The Vertu phones where one of the luxurious phones , which was venture of Nokia. The phones holds price more than 100000 in markets . The Vertu phones where first developed in Symbian and now it stopped making Symbian phones and turned on to Android. The Vertu is also not owned by Microsoft.

Now the Nokia is owned by Microsoft , but the Windows enabled phones are not well appreciated by the public , the Lumia phones have reduced market value throughout the years. Anyways the Nokia is still used as it is by several people around the world. They still love Nokia for it's durability and handy. Still I am using a Nokia 112 phone because it is handy and got nice battery life up to a week.
Anyways , most of the data collected records that after launching phones with Meego OS the Nokia has reduced it's market value. There where certain problems within the company choosing between Symbian and Meego OS. Nokia lost everything and fallen into the mouth of  a big giant Microsoft. Still people waits for the return of Nokia as mobile devices.
